Frequently Asked Questions

Connections

What are these differentn types?

There are currently three different types of connections, "Online Accounts", "Feed (RSS, Atom)" and "RDF (FOAF)". This specifies what kind of page you are linking to, a general profile page or your personal web page, a RSS or ATOM feed, and a RDF (Resource Description Framework) / FOAF (Friend of a Friend) link.

How are these connections used?

Depending on your visibility and data export settings, they are displayed on your profile or are added to your FOAF file.

Where can I add other web services to the connection types?

You may add other web services right here (requires login). Thanks for helping Proofile get better!

Can I search these services for a certain tag?

Yes, you can add "tag:" in front of your search string of the URL field, for example "tag:blog" would search for all services that contain the tag blog.

I already have added my friends on other services, why should I add them on Proofile too?

There are several reasons for adding friends:
· See who has last updated their profile
· Open standards are used
· Give meaning to connections
· User specific visibility settings become available
· Help build an open and global social graph
